Welcome to New York (Ally’s Version)
On rats, rent, and the reality of public nudity
Hi - welcome to my website, and by default, welcome to New York. Last summer I moved to this city in search of a *brighter future* - one that consisted of opportunities, experiences, and quote-unquote “success”. Instead, I found exorbitant rent, an excessive amount of people peeing (and doing other things) in public, and the knowledge of which route back to my apartment yielded the least amount of rat sightings. But, you know what they say, “New York or Nowhere” !!
I’m being facetious (kinda). You sort of have to be if you live here. If you can’t laugh about the lousy things, how can you expect to enjoy the great things? And there are a lot of great things - but we’ll get into that later. This first post simply exists as an introduction. A way to subtly (by way of its title) remind the public that I moved to NY and have made it a large part of my personality. A way to test out my sarcastic and self-deprecating approach to writing. And, a way to distract from the fact that I graduate in one month and still have yet to secure a job (don’t ask).
Anyway, thanks for being here. I’m excited about this, proud of this, and scared of this. But, that’s also how I felt my first night in NY - then I cried, drank a Budlight and the nerves went away. So, here’s hoping things go similarly, because I’m pretty happy with how that ended up playing out <3.
